R. Patrick's Obituary
R. Patrick Carnahan, 84, of South Haven, Michigan died Friday, April 27, 2012 at the River Ridge Retirement Community.
Pat was born May 22, 1927 in South Haven to Mavor and Edna “Dixie” (Brown) Carnahan. Pat graduated from South Haven High School. He then served in the US Navy as a pilot. Pat attended Western Michigan College, Case Institute of Technology, Illinois Institute of Technology and Michigan State Univ. receiving a business administration degree. While at MSU he was the first gymnast on Michigan States gymnastic team. After graduation, Pat got into the insurance business where he worked for 42 years. Pat worked at the Homer D. Insurance Agency in the Detroit area and then at Hardt Insurance in South Haven. Pat was very active in the South Haven community. He was a former board member of the Chamber of Commerce, Hospice, Industrial, Yacht Club and United Way Boards. Pat was also active the Boy Scouts, Masonic Temple, South Haven Golf Club and sang tenor in the Chord Sharks Quartet.
R. Patrick is preceded in death along with his parents by his first wife – Kay Nichols, who died in 1968 and second wife – Julia L. Robins, who died in 2007.
He is survived by his children - Kathleen Carnahan of San Marcus, California, Patrick M. Carnahan of South Haven, Michigan, Janice (Jeff) Tozer of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jill Seltenreich of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. John Seltenreich of Albany, New York, and James (Robin) Seltenreich of Laguna Beach, California. A sister and brother-in-law – Jean and Richard Leister. 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. 2 nephews and 1 niece.
Grave side services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery with Reverend John Fisher officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to South Haven Hospice at Home. Kindly share your thoughts and memorials at the family’s online guestbook at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
