Leon Stewart

Leon Stewart, 85, of Covert, Michigan died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Providence Medical Center. He was born on July 31, 1926 to Frank and Irene (Blackey) Stewart in Washington D.C. Leon served in the Army/Air Force during World War II and worked as an electrical contractor at Stewart Electrical Service. He was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters – Bernadett Jackson and Gwendalyn. A brother – Maurice Stewart. And a son – Ronald Stewart.

He is survived by 4 sons – Maurice Neustifter of Burvenia, Germany, Barron Moore of Jackson, Mississippi, Maurice (Adrienne) Stewart of Calumet City, Illinois, and Leon Stewart, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri. 3 daughters – Mary Brown of Kansas City, Missouri, Brenda Purry of Calumet City, Illinois, and Martina Singh of Bonner Springs, Kansas. A special daughter – Veronica Hartfield of South Haven, Michigan. A step daughter – Vicky Watts of Kansas City, Missouri. Former spouse – Leila Crumbley of South Haven, Michigan. 5 brothers – Earnest Portlow, Joseph Stewart of Chicago, Illinois, Edward Stewart of Pennsylvania, Anthony Stewart of Tacoma, Washington, and Francis Stewart of Georgia. 9 sisters – Loretta Johnson-Lee of Chicago, Illinois, Barbara Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, Teresa Smith and Cecilia Dohmen both of Nebraska, Margaret Pociask of Washington, Teressa Perrell, Gloria Stewart. An Aunt – Connie Turner of Chicago, Illinois. 21 grandchildren. 12 great grandchildren. And a host of nieces and nephews.

Wake will be Saturday, April 14 from 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M with funeral services following at Trinity Baptist Church in South Haven Township at with Pastor Simon Herrington eulogizing.
