I'm going to miss you Robb. You were one of the first of the "crowd", that made me feel like a friend. You and the Rott's must be having a great time now. What a great friend you have been. Mai Poina Oe Iau ("I will always remember you") Pat

As a fellow Navy man that also served in the Pacific, (although not as long as Robb did) I offer my salute and wish him God speed for his final voyage. The entire class of 1968 Rams will proudly remember him during our next reunion down by the river in July. Rest in peace.

My condolences to all of Robb's family on his passing. I learned more about Robb just by reading his obit than I did while we were classmates at L.C. Mohr. It is my loss for not knowing him better, but I get the sense that for those classmates that did, he will surely be missed greatly by friends and family. And, Robb will most assuredly be remembered at our annual Class of 1968 gathering at the River Bend Boat Club in July. Come and join us and get to know his classmates. Best wishes to all of you. I fondly remember Robb from early school years and the many hours we spent climbing the dunes searching for arrow heads. Bon Voyage old friend.

My heart is hurting, my love for you will always be there. You have held me when I was crying, you made me laugh when I was down. You have shown me things that I thought I never experience. The past many months were a pleasure to care for you, you were never a hardship. You are my love, you were my life. Now you life is with those you have loved in the past. Peace be with you my 7th Fleet Sailor.:)
Susie, you best half !

Sue, so sorry for your loss. By all accounts you had a wonderful marriage and husband. Cherish the memories because as long as you remember Robb with the love you shared together he will never truly be gone.

Enjoy your new life my love. I may be on vacation, but you are constantly in my heart. I cried when I went aboard the USS North Carolina for you. I felt you when I was at the ocean. You are all around me when I need you.

It has been 15 months now, the hurt is greater, the longing is stronger.
I put your ashes in the lake on July 28, 2012 at the Das Cruiser reunion. Norm, Scott, Tony, Don, Christopher, Jason, Jenni, Mike (sick w/hangover) and my pastor Rev.Roy Jeffery were there on Paula and Larry's boat. Jenni read an Irish poem/verse and made a floral wreath, Scott read a letter to you, I, well, as you know, had my written thoughts ripped out of my hands by you, and went totally mind blank. I placed your ashes in a blue box in Lake Michigan near the dunes you loved so much.
On Sunday morning before the guys left to return home, it was said that your spirit was no longer felt at the house. I thought it was only me, but when I heard them say it, I knew it was true. You were at rest. Given great honors by the SH American Legion. The day was beautiful, light breeze, low waves. You would of loved it.
My heart still hurts, my loneliness is great. Many times I long to be with you. I try my best to go on with life. If it wasn't for my girls and my boys, I wouldn't have a reason.
God, I miss him, please help be get through these next months. If You, God, see fit to take me, please make it painless, for I have had enough pain for a while. Amen.

I know this is well after the fact and perhaps no one will read this, but I had to put something down. I served with Robb for a brief time while stationed on the USS Halsey (CG-23). He was a First Class and my LPO (Leading Petty Officer), in Fox Division. Robb was always easy to talk to. Easy to work for, though he expected things to be done correctly. He taught me a lot, more by example than anything else. Perhaps it's the echoes from the years gone that cause us to yearn and seek out any connection to our past, trying to reclaim time gone by, I don't know. I do know that there were certain people in my military career that left an impression on me and in my heart will always shipmates. Robb is one of them. I only wish it was years earlier that I tried to look up old shipmates. Fair winds and following seas, Petty Officer Canning. May the water hours be short and the liberty hours long and may you rest in the arms of God.
