Vincent Edward Schumacher, Captain USN (ret), 96, of South Haven died Sunday, September 18 at his home.

He was born July 11, 1915 in Kankakee, Illinois to Charles and Ruth (Ives) Schumacher. Vincent graduated with his Bachelors Degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1938. Vincent married Mary Palmer on November 7, 1942 at Mare Island Naval Station, California. He served his country for 30 years and retired as Captain in the United States Navy. Captain Schumacher served as one of the original board members of the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Schumacher, who died in 2001. His sister, Jeanne Crandall, also precedes him.

He is survived by his three sons – Vincent P. Schumacher of Grand Rapids, MI, Charles A. Schumacher of Jamaica Plain, MA, and John R. Schumacher of Kensington, MD. One grandson – George Schumacher of Ada, MI also survives.
