Our family has such fond memories of Vince and Mary. We are neighbors to the north. Vince and Mary would come every Christmas with fruit cake, which Vince assured us was well soaked with spirits! One of our fondest memories occurred when we first moved into our home. The waves on the lake were very high. I looked out the window and saw a man kite surfing and from time to time, it appeared his disappeared under the high waves. I was very concerned and called the police to tell them I was worried about this person, since I had not seen him in a while. The policeman told me - "That will be Vince Schumacher. He is a navy man, and you dont have to worry about him! He can hold his own in those waves." Vince is also held dear in the hearts of both our boys. He was a wonderful person and will be missed.

My son corrected me about Vince. He was on a Sunfish sailboat - he was not kite surfing. :)

This is a sad day. Vince and I were very good friends as fellow crewmen at the Naval Academy. We rowed many miles together on the Severn during our four years there, in either the varsity or junior varsity crews. He will be missed.

Dear Vincent, I'm sorry I did not know earlier of your father's death. Our prayers are with you that the Lord would lift you up to view His love in Christ Jesus the Savior. May you experience that God carries His own through their sorrows and trials to make them more like His Son. H. Kleyn

Captain Schumacher had a profound effect on me and my career as he did on all at USNROTC, University of Louisville. His arrival marked a significant transformation. He was an inspirational leader and commanding officer.
