Alvern Brower

Alvern's Obituary

Alvern Leighton Brower, 73, of South Haven died Tuesday, February 15 at home.

He was born December 20, 1937 in Byron Center, Michigan to Albert and Frances (Isenhoff ) Brower. Alvern served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Sandra Lynn Taylor on September 14, 1962. Alvern worked for Hayworth Manufacturing. He was a member of the Kibbie Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church consistory. He was a former board president of the South Haven JAA. Alvern was a coach and board member for the South Haven Junior Youth League. With his church he served as a Stephens Minister and was a Sunday School teacher at Hope Reformed Church. Alvern served as the Driver Coordinator for We Care Inc. He also was the bowling league president in Grand Rapids. Alvern enjoyed sports, watching and coaching kids and grand kids., gardening, biking, bowling, roller blading and playing the Lotto.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his granddaughter – Maclaren Brower.

He is survived by his wife – Sandra Brower of South Haven, Michigan. Sons – Gregory (Carol Ann) Brower of St. Joseph, MO, Commander Rodney (Pattie) Brower of Brussels, Belgium, Eric Brower and Thomas (Mechele) Brower of South Haven, Michigan. Grandchildren – Braeden, Cody, Taylor, Joshua, Cameron, Jolie, Elijah and Preston Brower. Brother – Dale (Sharon) Brower of Byron Center, Michigan and sister – Elaine (Paul) Hoeksema of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 19, from 11 – 1 at the Kibbie Christian Reformed Church. Memorial services will begin Saturday at the church at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ron Hassell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bright Beginnings Christian Preschool, 1635 76th St. South Haven, MI 49090 or Kibbie Christian Reformed Church, 00479 CR 687 South Haven, MI 49090.
