Marion L.'s Obituary
Marion L. McGuire, 90, of South Haven died Sunday, November 28 at River Ridge Retirement Community.
She was born July 22, 1920 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Nels Frederick and Bertha Rose (Sprandel) Larson. Marion received her Bachelors Degree from Olivet College and then her Masters from University of Michigan majoring in English and American Literature. Marion married Henry Smith McGuire Jr. on February 18, 1943. Marion worked as a teacher for South Haven Public School for 5 years. Marion was a member of the First Congregational Church, AAUW founding member and the Scott Club. Marion served 4 years on the South Haven City Council and she also was a member of the planning commission and docent at the Maritime Museum.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Henry McGuire Jr. who died in 1981 and second husband Rowland Caugherty in 1993.
She is survived by her 2 sons – James M. (Deborah) McGuire of South Haven, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois and John P. (Qing) McGuire of Deerfield, Illinois. One daughter – Kathleen (William “Woody” Salava) McGuire of Boulder, Colorado. One sister – Louise Larson and brother - Frederick S. Larson both of Little Falls, Minnesota.
Memorial services will be scheduled in the spring. Memorial donations for a scholarship fund through the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) can be sent to 77252 Pinewood Lane in South Haven.
