Jane We did not know you particularly well or see you often but you were part of the family. We have been touched by your illness, bravery and the support of Mark and the wider family. We know that you made Mark and the boys happy and you have left a lot of sadness, but also many happy memories which will stay with them forever. You and your family are in our prayers now and will continue to be so. God Bless You

To the Thompson Family, I am sorry for your loss of Jane. She was so brave and so are you. I was so impressed by the love and devotion that you demonstrated. You brought her home where she could be surrounded by the love and normal family routine that she would never have appreciated in a hospital. If you are in need of anything, please call. One of the sweetest people I have ever met. I did not know Jane very well, but she always had a kind word and bright smile that brought joy to the dreariest of days. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to know her if even for such a short time. Rest in peace, Jane.

I was so saddened to read about Jane's death. I don't know you but I raised my 3 sons in the home that Jane passed away in and somehow it makes me feel a link with all of you. My sincere condolences for you and your family at this very tough time. Cindi Compton, South Haven

I’ve been writing a little every day since last Friday, struggling to capture what it is that I wanted to share about Jane. The sorrow has been daunting and, in my mind, it is no coincidence that we’ve been virtually invaded with grey sky and a mountain of snow- when we were already feeling the weight of our grief. And then today, a very welcomed sun shone. This last week, I feel like I’ve been moving rapidly, haphazardly, with only a pseudo sense of purpose, to do anything that occupied my thoughts and sadness- only to find that it took me longer to get any single thing accomplished. Therefore, when I was finally putting my socks on- at one in the afternoon- and the warmth of the sun blazed through the front window, I was even somewhat impressed at the speed which carried me down the stairs to fetch my computer. As I returned to that spot, ascending the stairs two at a time, the underlying motivation of my haste occurred to me. My mouth then fought whether to frown or to smile, curiously decided to split the difference, and once again my fondness for Jane overwhelmed me. I am lucky to have many memories of Jane: playing beach volleyball & Frisbee until the day’s end, watching her chase Joel & Reece, discuss music with Luke, or listen to her translate clever English expressions while she pulled her hair into a ponytail. More recently, after many weeks confined to hospital beds, I remember how happy we all were for Jane’s victory in getting outside to feel the sun on her face. I sit here now similarly bask in light, thinking of Jane, who was remarkably funny, outgoing and kind. Throughout enduring such bittersweet and arduous straights themselves, Jane and Mark have inspired a renewed fortitude of love and community within us all. Jane, you made us better. And I wish you peace. You are, and will forever be, a very warm, very brilliant, very welcomed sun.

There is no understanding why some people are taken when they clearly have so much of life to live, its tragic and unfair. Sweet dreams to a friendly, jolly person who always had a smile to share. RIP Jane
