My sympathies to the family. I worked with Chuck at WYYY (AM) in Kalamazoo during the 1970's. He was definitely an original. I vividly remember him doing a newscast completely from memory because he accidentally left his copy on his desk. He didn't miss a beat. Chuck was a true "radio man" and it was an honor and a privilege to have known him. I know that he will be missed.

My condolences to all of Chuck's family and friends. Chuck was my first "real" Program Director at WHFB in Benton Harbor in 1973. One time, he came into the studio as I was blabbering on and told me to edit myself on the air. I said "That's my personality." and Chuck said "You don't have a personality...YET." The basic things he taught me served me on to a career that has lasted 35 years, throughout Michigan, Indiana, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC as well as The Voice of America and Sirius-XM Satellite Radio. The first time I heard Olivia Newton-John's song "If you love me let me know" I thought Chuck was singing along with the song on the air. I walked into the studio and he was just sitting there getting ready for his next break but, that's how GOOD Chuck's voice was...a rich baritone that I would kill for. When you hear this song, think of him. His production was amazing with the primitive tools of the day and had he pursued it, would have LOVED digital editing and production. But, cigs took his voice and breath so he was relegated to simpler tasks. Chuck loved Jeanie and his kids and would email me with all their updates. He will be missed and I am glad to have known him.
