Marshall's Obituary

Marshall W. Corey, 92, of South Haven died Tuesday, August 26 at home.

He was born March 4, 1916 in Grand Traverse County, Michigan to William and Eulalia (Smith) Corey. Marshall was a lifetime resident of South Haven and graduated from South Haven High School in 1934. In his high school years Marshall played on the football, baseball, basketball and track teams. Marshall was the captain of the football team. Marshall served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Marshall married Eleanor Wojtanowski on January 11, 1947 in South Haven. Marshall worked at Hamlin Overton for 30 years. He also worked for A.H. Clarke Realty and Don Woodhams Auto Sales retiring when he was 63. Marshall has always been an avid golf player and started his own golf repair shop and sold and repaired golf clubs until he was 80. Marshall was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Haven and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 49 and the V.F.W. Post 667. Marshall enjoyed golf and played until he was 85. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by a daughter- Janet Corey Growden and his sister – Maxine Spratt.

He is survived by his wife – Eleanor Corey of South Haven, Michigan. One son – Craig (Nancy) Corey of Severance, Colorado. Three daughters – Marcia (Roger) Wight of South Haven, Michigan, Carol Corey Webb of Lantana, Florida and Karin (Chuck) McChesney of Boynton Beach, Florida. 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Special friends – Joan Corey Hoyt, Bill Growden and Chuck Crawford also survive. Marshall and Chuck have been friends since the 2nd grade.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2 from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorial services will begin at 11:30 at the church with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Peace Lutheran Church or South Haven Hospice at Home. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
