Glenn Scott's Obituary
Glenn S. Cowles, 64, of South Haven passed away Monday, September 24 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 12, 1943 in South Haven, Michigan to Glenn H. and Ethel (Ebbesen) Cowles. Glenn graduated from L.C. Mohr High School in 1961. He received his Bachelors Degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management from Michigan State University. Glenn married Jacquelyn Bachler on February 14, 1976 in Independence, Ohio. Glenn was a business owner and co- owned with his wife, GJ Platters restaurant, Econo Lodge and Suites and Athletic Club in South Haven, Quality Inn Hotel in Paw Paw, and the UPS Stores in South Haven and Paw Paw. Glenn was an Eagle Scout. Glenn formerly served his community in several ways including: President of the South Haven Chamber of Commerce, member of the South Haven Yacht Club where he was commodore , Save the Catwalk Committee, First Congregational Church, President of the Lakeshore Convention and Visitors Bureau, Distinguish President of Kiwanis Club of South Haven and served as Lt. Governor for Kiwanis Distric #3, President Council and Small Properties Sub-committee and MLA from 1980 – 1987. Glenn received the 1993 MTTA Hotelier of the Year award. Glenn loved MSU, boating, horticulture and nature. He had a great sense of humor and loved to cook.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his sister – Mary Alice Cowles.
He is survived by his wife – Jacquelyn Cowles of South Haven. Three sons – Robert S. Cowles of San Francisco, California, Paul L. Cowles of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and Glenn A. Cowles of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter – Ann Cowles Aughney of Lansing, Michigan. Three grandchildren – Nicholas and Emily Cowles and Payton Aughney.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26 from 4 - 7 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at the First Congregational Church UCC at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First Congregational Church Youth Fund.
