Porter Sherman

Porter J. Sherman, 83, of South Haven died Monday, March 26, 2007 peacefully at his home.

He was born August 15, 1923 in South Haven, Michigan to Rupert W. and Gladys E. (Meyer ) Sherman. Porter married Charlotte Jensen on June 9, 1945. Port worked as a dairy farmer for many years in the Sherman family business. In 1962 Sherman Brothers began manufacturing ice cream and in 1971 Port purchased the business and was active in the day to day operations until he retired. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his daughter – Marjo Daggett. Also by a brother, Rupert “Tim” Sherman.

He is survived by his wife – Charlotte Sherman of South Haven, Michigan. One son – Porter C. (Belinda) Sherman of South Haven, Michigan and Two daughters – Ann (Scott) Raue and Betty (Sandy) Dopp both of South Haven, Michigan. Grandchildren – Jeremy (Emily). Terry (Erin), Amy (Paul), Missy (Aaron), Stacy (Mike), and Sheila (Kevin), and eight great grandchildren. Two brothers – Burton R. Sherman and Gerald (Margaret) Sherman all of South Haven, Michigan also survive.

Visitation will be from 6 – 7:30 on Wednesday, March 28 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Memorial services will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to South Haven Area Hospice or the First Congregational Church.
