Monique Powell

Monique Powell, age 35, of Holland, was unexpectedly called home to her Lord on Wednesday, November 21. Monique was born November 4, 1977, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Donald and Jacqueline Williams.

Monique grew up in South Haven, MI (graduating from South Haven High), where she began building her relationship with God at Pentecostal Temple COGIC (Bishop Fred & Lady Ann Cunningham)

In June 2000, she married her husband Reginald and relocated to Raleigh, NC. She then gave birth to her greatest joy, Alex in June of 2003.

While in NC, Monique attended Abundant Life Christian Center COGIC (Supt. Stenneth & Lady Beverly Powell) among her accomplishments, Monique graduated (with honors) from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Also, she became a proud member of the Alpha Kapa Alpha Sorority. (Chi Rho Omega chapter, Knightdale, NC)

Monique later returned to Michigan where she attended Abundant Faith Word Church (Pastor Amere & Lady Kenya May). She began working at Van Raalte High School and later at Destination Education who she worked diligently until her passing.

Monique was a determined, loving, faithful, vibrant, classy, respected, educated and trusting young woman who grew out of the shadows of others and into her own. A life gone too soon, she will be greatly missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Huldah Carter and mother-in-law, Sula M. Powell and grandmother-in-law Sula L. Powell.

Monique is survived by her husband of 12 years, Reginald, and their son, R. Alexander William; mother, Jacqueline Jones (Willie); father, Donald Williams; grandfather, Andrew Carter; grandmother, Eleanor Williams; sister, Danielle (Lee) Smith; brother, John (Holly) King; sister, Lucretia Childs; sister, Nicole Williams; brother, Donald Williams; sister LaToya Williams; sister, Terah Williams; father-in-law, Leon Hedgepeth (Dorothy) and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, November 30, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven.  Funeral services will be Saturday, December 1, at 11:00 A.M. at the Abundant Faith Word Church of Kalamazoo, 1310 Banks Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 with Rev. Amere May officiating. A wake will be held Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the service. Monique will be laid to rest at North Holland Cemetery in Holland, Michigan. A repast will be held at Imagine Fellowship Church, 167 West 20^th Street, Holland, MI 49423 following the burial.
