Roy's Obituary
Roy Laverne Adkin, 84, of South Haven, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014 at his home under Hospice care. He was born September 12, 1929 to Roy and Dorothy (Johnston) Adkin in South Haven. Roy had a passion for growing things and owned and operated Royal Mark Blueberry Plantation and Adkin and Son Associated Food Products for most of his working life. Roy grew peaches, pears, blue berries, and chestnuts. He belonged to the Chestnut Growers, Inc. He married his wife of 39 years, Linda (Kahne) Adkin on December 6, 1975. Roy was a life-long member of the Casco United Methodist Church. He also played saxophone in the Casco Band for many years. Roy was a past commodore of the South Haven Yacht Club and was past president of the South Haven Center for the Arts.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by a son – Mark Adkin, brother – Glenn Adkin, and sister – Jean Rumiez.
Roy is survived by his wife - Linda Adkin, daughter – Shelly (Bernie) Adkin Newton of South Haven, step-daughter – Kimberly (Don) Welch of Paw Paw, and step-son – Scott Jennings of Paw Paw. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Casco United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:00 PM at the church with Rev. David Meister officiating. Contributions may be made in Roy’s memory to the Casco United Methodist Church, 880 66th Street, South Haven, Michigan 49090 or South Haven’s Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
