Timothy's Obituary

Timothy “Ted” Horan, 94, of South Haven, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Ted was born on April 8, 1920 to Timothy E. and Lena (Walraven) Horan in Bay City, MI. Ted owned and operated Horan Concrete from 1955 until his retirement in 1985. He was a horse owner and trainer and enjoyed sulky horse racing. Ted served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II.  He was a member of the St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven and the American Legion Post #49.  Ted always said, “When I die and go to heaven to St. Peter I will say, “Another marine reporting for duty sir.  I have served my time in hell.””

He is preceded in death along with his parents by his wives – Ann Horan and Barbara Horan; son – Kevin Horan who passed in 1962; daughter-in-law  - Tamsen Horan;  siblings – Anthony and William Horan, Marjorie Neering, Helen Willette, and Dorothy Poirier.

Ted is survived by his four sons – Timothy Horan III of Spokane, WA, Jim (Beth) and Brian (Teresa) Horan both of South Haven, and Michael (Judy) Horan of Brighton; daughter – Kathy (Dennis) Plockmeyer of Maryland. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 8, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven. Ted will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Contributions may be made to the St. Basil Catholic Church in Ted’s memory.
