James Lee Lawson

James Lee Lawson, 53, of Concord, Michigan, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home in Concord. He was born May 23, 1962 to Deloris (Lawson) Stultz and William Shivley in Beckley, West Virginia. James spent much of his time and admired his grandparents, Lawrence and Lora (Gill) Lawson. James married Penny (Willson) Cowell on March 23, 1985 at the Free Will Baptist Church of South Haven. James was a personal property manager for Sun Rize Acres and Ted Nugent. He also volunteered as Deputy Sherriff for Lake County, Michigan. He was a proud member of the NRA and avid hunter who advocated for hunters’ rights.

He is preceded in death by his father – William Shivley, step-father – Harold Stultz, three brothers – Elmer, Lucian, and Robert Lawson.

James is survived by his wife – Penny Lawson, children – Jinny (Terry) Balliet of South Haven and Mike (Tina) Cowell of Grand Junction, mother – Deloris Stultz of South Haven, siblings – Harold (Sarah) Stultz Jr., Carol (Jeff Boone) Stultz Buyze, Frances Stultz, and Karla (Mike Parrish) Langston all of South Haven, extended siblings - Cecelia (Les) Keson, Florence Kelly, Larry (Pam) Lawson all of South Haven, Cleveland (Martha) Lawson of Wingo, Kentucky, Elaine Lawson of Ft. Meyers Beach, Florida, Rick (Anna) Lawson, Roberta (Dana) Kuenzli, and Angie (Terry) McPike all of Bangor, four grandchildren – Kristin (Joe Daggett) Covey, Mikayla Harris, Dalton Cowell, and Riley Balliet, and two great grandchildren – Trey Daggett and Madelyn Daggett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven, 6321 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2:00 PM at the church with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating. Contributions may be made in James’ memory to the Lawson Family, 1076 S.
