Mrs. Lewis was a wonderful woman. Genuine. Kind. Joyful. Elegant. Generous. I loved her deeply as my fifth-grade teacher, and I will always remember how she treated all of her students with respect and kindness. She expected and inspired us to be good to each other, to approach the world with curiosity, and to develop empathy. In short, she represented the best of who we could be. My condolences to her family. I am so sorry for your loss, and so grateful to have known her.

I was honored to have the opportunity to be her student. She taught me so much, not just about academics, but about how to be a loving, kind and decent person. I probably have more memories (all of them good) about her than any other teacher I've ever had.  Love and condolences to her family. Thank you for sharing her with the rest of us!Â

The perfect role model for the pre-teens she guided through those difficult and emotional years. We all have been blessed, students and parents alike, by her example. It is not with tears I mourn her passing but with a smile because I cannot think of Mrs. Lewis any other way. With a smile and wonderful memories of this very remarkable woman. Â

So many memories... every year we would trick or treat at her house on Phoenix St. when my sister was her student and I was a third grader I remember telling her that I HATED to read. She told me that when I got to her room in fifth grade that she would have me loving to read...âI just needed to find the right bookâ she said. Well that year came and she did it. I went home for thanksgiving break with the book âThe Best Christmas Pageant Ever.â I read the whole thing and LOVED it. Iâve been an elementary librarian for 15 years now and I use her line all the time ...âyouâll love to read, you just have to find the right book.â She was a blessing to so many children over the years. They just donât make teachers like that anymore. I was so lucky to have her in my life!

Lisa, It is with great sorrow to hear about your mothers passing. She was one of the most beautiful women I have ever known inside & out. She was not only my 5th grade teacher, she was a role model to many. I tear up just thinking about how she will not be there anymore to give me a big hug when I'm walking down the streets of SH and say "Oh Theresa it is so good to see you" It is hard to say goodbye, But it is her time now to Rest In Heaven

Mrs. Lewis was a bright and shining soul. When I was a child, we were neighbors on Prospect St. in the mid-1960's where our families became good friends, and I have very fond memories of her then and at St. Basil's. She and my mom were close friends, and I am touched to think of them together in heaven. Many blessings on her path. Much love to the family.

Dear Lisa and Rick and families, My mom, Nancy Roe Gleason, and your mom were best of friends growing up. I remember how kind your mom always was when I would visit your house with my mom in South Haven in the summers growing up, and as she and mom would laugh and catch up together. As we walked to town, mom would show me the hedge where she and Loris would hide their snow pants on the way to school, and tell me about their games like Einey Iney Over and roller skating with the metal wheels skates, playing with paper dolls, and how one boy got his tongue stuck to a pole in wintertime. I remember one time when I was 16 my mom was going to go out with your mom when we were visiting, and grandma Helen asked her the standard parent questions: "Where are you going? Who are you going out with? When are you going to be home?" and my mom stated exasperated, "Mom, I'm 54 years old!" Ahhh, what a wonderful friendship they had through the years. Your mother was a wonderful, kind woman. I wish you peace and love. --Wendy (Gleason) Edde
