Ron was a kind man. In my early years as an entrepreneur in South Haven in the late 80s and early 90s he always gently led the way to people and ways to get things done. I am deeply saddened by his passing and send my heartfelt comfort to family. He was a giant of South Haven and a good man.

I have many warm Winding Creek Circle memories of Ron with his twinkly eyed gentle smile; engineering creative marvels at the mouth of Winding Creek at Lake Michigan with his grandchildren, carrying curious beach discoveries (some quite large) up the beach stairs to analyze, repurpose, or just tinker with, roaming the beach, the bluff, or the neighborhood engaging with nature and people sharing his wit and wisdom. He has surely left his footprint in this world.

I first got to know Ron back in 2007 & 8 when he was so wiling to meet with an informal group I formed looking at various planning issues. He promoted regional planning and was so insightful and shared great ideas. He opened many doors and helped me understand the importance of community service at so many levels. I remember when he was honored in 2004 with an award from the South Haven mayor and he said "thanks now I expect all of you to join me in working for the community." Ron was great in so many ways and will be remembered for his kindness to everyone he met. Dick Brunvand

As I mentioned to an email to John, I recruited Ron into the ExxonMobil organization as he was completing his PhD at Berkeley. Subsequently we were colleagues initially in New Jersey and afterwards in Baton Rouge. In New Jersey I was his Project Leader, and in Baton Rouge he became my Director in the Exploratory Section. So I was astute in my recruiting foray at Berkeley. Ron was the consummate gentleman, a pleasure to collaborate with on varied R&D objectives, and possessed a wry sense of humor. I lost track of Ron after he returned to Michigan, but I have retained fond memories of our time together.

Ron impressed me with his wisdom and ability to bring people with diverse views to a meeting of the minds. Always gently, kindly and with a smile & twinkle in his eye. Proud to have served with him on the ad hoc committee for the school millage and watch him in action on the LDFA and Brownfield Authority in my workplace. A true gentleman. My deepest sympathy to those who will miss him most.

A prayer to Ron, Ron, How very much I pray that you are safe in God's arms, and experiencing the glorious peace that eluded you these last few years on earth. This earthly life is not an easy one at times, and I am sorry that your physical weariness won over. Thank you for all of the times that you moved me with your humor, your wisdom, and your poignancy. You touched this world, and left a beautiful impression. Prayers to for your family and friend as they struggle with your loss. You are home at last....Amen... Leroy Ward

Kevin and Barbara gave me the opportunity to share fime with Ron these last months. As I sit at South Beach beach looking at the lighthouse today on the day Ron is buried, I remember all the times I Ron here to people watch. We enjoyed looking at the lighthouse and discussing saving it. I took one last memory drive through South Haven cherishing Captain Nemo's where Kevin and Ron loved to get Sherman's ice cream. Stopping to see Chemical Bank where they are good at making money! And Overhisels which always reminded Ron that Barbara is his wife. She is a GOOD ONE. The depth of devotion between Ron, Kevin and Barbara is a family bond that all families want to copy. It is love. I am thankful for my small opportunity to share in this precious moment in time. As your new normal moves forward, the love that Ron had for you is there, his kindness lives on.

I had the pleasure of working with Ron on the Brownfield/Local Development Finance Authorities for several years. He was always prepared and organized and added much to the City of South Haven through his work on these boards. He was a true gentleman. In recent years I saw him at the Wellness Center and admired his determination and persistence. You have my sincere sympathy.

We met Ron and Barbara when they did an intermediate stop in Amsterdam during their Europe tour. Our distant ancestors brought us together and it was great to be able to make this connection. My deepest sympathy to those who will miss him.
