I only knew Sally at River Ridge. She told me of taking train rides with her siblings as a child. She talked about holiday dinners. She talked about a grandson that loved to spend time with her. Of course she spoke of nursing, but, even as her memories started to make no sense to her or me, the ones with friends and family were the ones she gasped onto so desperately. She had all of you no matter what. You were so lucky to have loved her.

Mary, Al and families, your mom was a special lady to David and my girls. Her and your dad welcomed us with open arms in 1981 when David and Tom started at Palisades together. Since we weren’t from South Haven, they became our surrogate family. Loved her flowers , her smile and her cookies. Know she is with your dad and brothers in heaven watching over you all. Love you guys.

Al and Mary-I have so many fond memories of you Mom. We worked together at SHCH for many years, where she helped to mold my career as a nurse. Always kind and selfless, she even sewed a dress for my oldest, Lisa, to wear in the Miss SH pageant (where she was 1st runner up). When I would run into Sally around town, mostly at the library, she never rushed, but talked and reminisced sometimes for an hour or more. As you think about her and remember the wonderful times, please know that she was a special part of my life, as well.

Mary - I wish I had the right words to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. All that comes to me is that I want to thank you both for sharing your parents with us. Your Mom was kind and giving and your dad still ranks as one of my favorite teachers. It can't be easy sharing your parents with the whole community! They have left a wonderful legacy in you and Al, and of course, John and Tom. You did an amazing job making sure your mom had all of the care and love that she had given us all these years.
