Sometime in life, you find a special friend; Someone who changes your life just by being a part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop; Someone who makes you believe that there is really good in the world, Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open it. George was a true gentleman and this is how I will remember him.

So what is 53 years? Over five decades to some? Over the hill to others? To me, it has been the relationship of a lifetime. George Raleigh King (Dad) was a man among men. He was a father-in-law, grandpa, mentor, companion, and rockstar for four generations of beneficiaries lucky enough to know him. Words pale in describing the immense impact Dad has had on these generations of people who have known and loved him. How is it even possible to describe the spontaneous and wonderful wit and humor he shared with us over all these years? How is it even possible to explain the deep and dedicated devotion he had to his family and friends through good times and bad? Dad was always there with words of wisdom, encouragement, and levity. For two decades Dad and his daughter Paula talked daily on the phone and later on Zoom. Since Paula's passing, Eric, Marvin and I have Zoomed with Gramps three times a week for nearly two years. He anchored us with his advice and wisdom. He humored us with his wit and irony. As a father-in-law he loved me like a son and I loved him as my father. In my lifetime, there has been no other person more important or impactful than my dear old Dad, George Raleigh King. I love you, Dad. May you rest in everlasting peace.

George was always so joyful, a smile for everyone he met. His devotion to his family was evident and inspirational. It has been year’s since I’ve seen him, but I will always remember his kindness.

I remember George when I worked at Woodland Terrace. I helped take care of his wife Phyllis. He never missed a day of coming to see her with their puppy dog. George was always so friendly and sweet and I remember him smiling when he walked in the door all the way until he left for the evening. George was such a sweet soul and will be dearly missed, but I know that he's with Phyllis now.
