Norbert 's Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Norbert here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
My earliest memory of Uncle Norbert involved visits to Riverview Amusement Park at Western and Belmont near my parents' apartment on Fletcher Avenue. He would join my parents, and we would watch the parachutes carrying people on a bench on a cable being pulled up on a cable to the top of high tower. The parachute would drip for some feet before it opened and gently swayed the rest of the way down. The second major attraction involved large open boats that slide down a water ramp into a large rectangular pond at the bottom. The boats were filled with people, and they would disappear behind curtains of spraying water. Lots of screaming occurred on both rides.
There were also get togethers at Polish weddings, holidays and family get togethers including first communions, and confirmation.
What struck me the most though over time is that Norbert was very much like his father August who I spent a lot of time with and along with my father served as my primary male role model. August had a similar sense of humor, loved working with wood and had an absolute love for his immediate and extended family.
I am grateful for all the time I had with my grandfather August and I am sure that Norbert has passed on similar values to his children and grandchildren. He will be missed but long remembered.
