We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of George "Buddy" here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
I hold wonderful memories of "Uncle Buddy"! At Christmas when I was little, along with my brothers and sisters, I remember waiting for the packages to arrive in the mail from Aunt Maureen and Uncle Buddy! We would each get a box with a toy and a box with an outfit all wrapped up! I remember my Aunt saying once "Buddy shopped for the boys and she shopped for the girls". I loved getting those gifts and to this day, I love giving gifts, I think my Aunt and Uncles' generosity played a big part in my love for sharing. I'll never forget all the summers at South Haven, taking the boat over to their beach. Most of all I'll always treasure my beautiful painting Buddy gave me that he painted and framed himself. He was so proud of it. Thank you Uncle Buddy - I'll miss you. Julie

I will always look back at my years at Episcopal fondly due in great part to Mr. Warren and his stories. He always knew when it was time for him to tell one and how much we all loved hearing them. I will also never forget sitting in that corner by the air conditioner and waking up to him telling someone to wake up "Uncle Schmidty". He was a great teacher and a great man and will always be in the thoughts of his students, especially this one. Thank you for everything, especially for imparting your love of history and your absolute and undying devotion to your students.

During my senior year at EHS I had back to back politics and economics with Mr. Warren every day. What a wonderful man with such a kind heart. He had such a great sense of humor and always had time to help me with my work or anything personal I ever needed to talk with him about. He always had my full respect in and out of the classroom and he will truly be missed by so many. The last time I saw him was in 1996 and even today, I can still picture him sitting behind that desk carrying on and laughing along with us, his friends. He will always be remembered!

I am saddened by your loss. Mr. Warren was a wonderful teacher who never forgot a face. He made learning fun at Episcopal and I can still remember his stories about his beloved dog Sunshine and his love for his wife and his home in Michigan. He will be missed!!

Mr. Warren was a wonderful teacher and he touched many of students lives in so many ways. He was always able to laugh at himself and teach something new to all of us. I passed up taking AP classes just so I could have Mr. Warren my senior year. I hope that all of his family know how much he will be missed.

Dear Maureen, I was saddened to hear about Buddy’s passing. Thank God he made it to 78. We lost my brother John 10 years ago when he was only in his 50’s. I can remember many hours spent on the front porch of Buddy’s house just down Nassau Street from where I was brought up. There was a big group of us that used to play sports on the playground at Olden Avenue and Williams Street before the university starting developing. I guess the last time I saw you both was when you were living in West Windsor. I have 4 children and 3 grandchildren and am still running my company in my grandfather’s old house at 195 Nassau Street. Buddy was always warm and interesting and one of my closest childhood friends. He will be sorely missed. Sincerely, Bryce Thompson PS – If you are ever in the area, please give me a call at 609-921-7655. I would love to take you to lunch or dinner and catch up on the years that we missed.

I am saddened by George's passing but I am truly blessed that he was a part of my life. He was one of the best teachers I ever had and he took my experience at Hun to a higher level. He was always there, more than just as a teacher- he was a friend who you could discuss life with. I remember one day I had something important to talk about and he took time off and took me out for 18 holes of golf and a lot of understanding conversation. I am sorry that I lost touch with him over all of these years, but he was a man who truly made a difference for me and a lot of others

Dear Maureen, I was deeply saddened to hear of George's passing away. We have missed him since he left Episcopal and particularly now. I know how much he loved you and all his students. He was indeed the inspiration for the endowment for each year's sigficant monetary award and honors bestown on 3-4 teachers each year by the Davis family. His legacy, perhaps unknown to many, will outlast all of us teachers and will vibrantly live on in the students he taugth. His sense of humor, broad knowlege of many fields never ceased to amaze me. As a southerner, I found him making jokes of the south interesting as well. On one day, his humorous approach "slid south" so I asked him did he respect the south in any area. He immedidately changed tone, taking my tone for a one time serious question. He quickly responded, "Oh, yes, the well-known authors of the south were highly regarded (and naming seweral." I always respected George because the respect of his students was evidenced year after year. He personanified the high ideals of the teacher-student relationship. I cannot even imagine the depth of the relationship you two had. May the new year continue to bring many happy memories. I am glad you are surrounded by family. As in George's farewell speech and quote of a well-know Irish prayer "May the wind be always at your back and the sun shine warm upon your face...." in deepest sympathy, Marlo Drake

Maureen, George was a wonderful man, and I am sorry for your loss. I will always remember the year1971, as I look at the photo on my desk of George wearing the gold medal around his neck from the high school national track and field championship in California. The lessons learned from George years ago are as valuable today as they were when he taught them to us years ago. You and George were the best, thank you. Greg Cortina

The news of George Warren’s death filled me with both sadness and awe. Sadness to think the world has lost one great human being and awe for having been fortunate to learn from this man. As a high school teacher, George Warren introduced us to the subject of “Economics”. George had the ability to transform mundane topics into concepts that inspired pupils. He challenged us to think critically about the world, its leaders and its economic/political structure. He did this however, from a Christian perspective that never preached but always encouraged the student to think beyond the concepts of money and power. I have carried (and wrestled) with these thoughts from JEHS, though graduate school and into a career in International finance. I am thankful for George’s life for his leadership and inspiration.
